Research Technician - Assay

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Assay/Cell Culture Technician to support and strengthen our Antibody Discovery team. The successful candidate will bring  2-5 years of relevant hands-on experience and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

$56,000 - $66,000, commensurate with skills and experience

This position is based in Victoria, BC, Canada, where our primary focus is fee-for-service antibody development for international clients as a CRO.

Key responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-house assays including ELISA, Flow Cytometry, BLI, and Western blots for antibody discovery and characterization
  • Perform Quality Control (QC) testing including endotoxin, mycoplasma, SEC, and SDS-PAGE
  • Analyze assay data and provide technical insight
  • Ensure compliance with the quality management system during testing and validation  
  • Collaborate across teams to meet client project deadlines  
  • Perform mammalian cell culture tasks for Flow assays, cell banks, and lysate preparation

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with Project Team Leaders on client projects
  • Collaborate with Protein Expression team during testing
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and maintain inventory system
  • Review, revise, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required
  • Follow consistent work practices in accordance with MindWalk protocols, policies, and SOPs  
  • Maintain a well-organized laboratory environment, including equipment maintenance, cleaning, and waste management

Requirements:

Required Qualification

  • BSc or higher in biological or chemical sciences, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with core laboratory techniques, including aseptic handling, use of biosafety cabinet (BSC), and general benchwork
  • Hands-on experience with ELISA, functional assays, Flow cytometry, and other cell staining techniques
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated competency in aseptic technique for mammalian cell culture
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and collaborative with a hands-on approach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with binding kinetics platforms (e.g., BLI/Octet; SPR an asset)
  • Familiarity with automated systems, including microfluidics and automated pipetting systems
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, including primary cultures, adherent and suspension cells
  • Practical skills in cell culture maintenance, including media preparation, freezing/thawing, and preparing cells for staining
